Background
Wuhan University is a top 10 university in China, and there are more than 9300 faculty dormitory buildings in about 855 acres campus. For years, different telecom operators or ISPs deploy their network within buildings separately and provide internet access service to staffs.
Customer Requirements and Challenges
As there are so many operators or ISPs’ network, university’s network unified management is very difficult. Wiring system within buildings is mixed and disorderly, the access to school’s education network is not convenient for staffs while staying at home. Because of lacking maintenance, many cables are out of date which can cause serious fire accident. Also, if the staff wants to access education network at home, the data traffic will go to public network firstly and then route back to education network, that increase bandwidth and network security problem largely.
How to manage the network unified with campus network, and how to build a safe and bandwidth save network are the most requirements of university.
Bland Technologies Solution
After discussing with university’s information center, we designed the new network topology with them. Cooperate with one operator to build an FTTH (Fiber to The Home) Network, and uplink to a BRAS (Broadband Remote Access Server) system which accesses to education network and public networks.
At last, the university selected China Unicom as operator partner, and deployed Bland Technologies’ FTTH solution to build the network. Here are the products used:
1, BRAS and core switches are used for data aggregation and access to public network and education network.
2, Four GPON OLTs which can support over 10,000 ONUs’ access are installed in 4 different equipment rooms, each port supports 32 ONTs access. The OLTs support different venders’ ONT access.
3, ONT support LAN, POTS and WiFi services, enable users connect to network flexibly.
